My latest book from from The History Press is titled Strange Tales from Virginia’s Foothills to the Coast: The Richmond Vampire, the Witch of Pungo, the Dismal Swamp Monster & More.

The Old Dominion is filled with the unexplained…

With a history stretching back to the 1607 Jamestown settlement, Virginia is rich in mystery. There are ghost towns, fake towns, a vampire in Richmond, a Bunnyman in Clifton and secret government sites all over. Colonists buried gold along the James River and Sir Francis Bacon’s plan for a “New Atlantis” lies in a vault in Williamsburg. Fabled pirates Captain Kidd and Blackbeard stashed treasure along the Virginia coast. A ghost light appears at a railroad crossing near West Point and mysterious booms rattle windows from central Virginia to the Eastern Shore. Cryptid creatures stalk the forests from Fairfax County to the Great Dismal Swamp. A devil monkey lurks in Goochland, Bigfoot roams Marine Corps Base Quantico, and a sea serpent swims through the Chesapeake Bay.

Join Virginia native Denver Michaels as he explores these legends and many more.

Released AUGUST 23, 2021 from The History Press: Haunted Shenandoah Valley:

The abolitionist John Brown still roams the West Virginia panhandle–and beyond. In Lexington, a statue sheds real tears, mourning Virginians killed in battle. Decades of abuse at a sanatorium unleashed malevolent entities in Staunton. Spirits of Native Americans, Civil War soldiers and children frequent natural springs in Frederick County and caves near Strasburg. Ghosts stay free of charge at the nation’s oldest inn in Middletown, and at the Natural Bridge Hotel, phantom children play in the halls. Visitors from beyond the grave enjoy live performances at several theaters in the region, while spectral soldiers gather for combat in the battlefields scattered throughout the area. Join Denver Michaels as he delves into folklore, eyewitness accounts and urban legends to bring you the best ghost stories from the Shenandoah Valley.

My April 2021 book published by The History Press, is titled Strange Tales From Virginia’s Mountains.
The stunning mountains of Virginia offer spectacular views and endless outdoor activities, yet they also hold secrets. A nineteenth-century cache of gold is buried in the hills. Nine-foot giants once walked the ridges, pre-Columbian explorers built homes on isolated mountaintops and a ghost town lies deep in the Jefferson National Forest. The mountains conceal canines that walk upright, black panthers and a resurgent mountain lion population. The hide-and-seek champion of the world, Bigfoot, lurks in the dark hollows, phantom dogs pace the back roads and aggressive monkeys swing through the trees. UFOs crisscross the skies, and ghosts haunt the caverns below. Join Denver Michaels, local author and explorer of the unexplained, as he explores these mysteries and many more.
My books include Giants: Men of Renown published by Adventures Unlimited Press. This book covers the myths and legends of giants all over the world.

Denver Michaels runs down the many stories of giants around the world and testifies to the reality of their existence in the past.

Michaels discusses the races of giants named in the Bible and also examines extra-biblical sources such as the Book of Enoch, the Book of Giants, the Book of Moses and the Ethiopian sacred text of the Kebra Nagast. He then takes off on a trip around the world, visiting the stories of Mesoamerica and South America, and the firsthand accounts of conquistadors’ encounters with giants. He looks at tales from the South Pacific, including ones from New Zealand, Easter Island and Hawaii. He explores the Indian subcontinent’s traditions, including the fantastic Golden Age statures attained by the Jains. He looks at the legends of Europe, starting with the Titans and Olympians of Greece, and including the legends of the Hyperboreans who were said to come from the North. He visits the rich giant loreof the English, Irish and Norse.
When it comes to ancient North America, Michaels says we’ve got it all wrong, and explores an alternative history for the continent. He tells numerous native legends of giants from the east coast to the west. If it has to do with giants, Michaels covers it.
Tons of illustrations with an 8-page color section.

The book is also available at Amazon, Barnes & Noble and a variety of other online retailers. Both print and e-book versions are available.

In my paranormal travel series, Detours Into The ParanormalI take the reader along on my travels and share my experiences on the road. I explore local hauntings, cryptid creatures, UFO reports, and the strange and unexplained from various parts of the country. There are currently seven books in the series, but now that I am living in an RV and traveling the nation full time, more titles will soon follow.

In Wild & Wonderful (and Paranormal) West VirginiaI ask: Why does the Mountain State experience a disproportionate amount of strange activity?

My first book, People are Seeing Something, examines the lake monster phenomenon in the United States and Canada.

My second book piggybacks off of the first. In Water Monsters South of the BorderI look at reports in the Caribbean, Central & South America, and Mexico of water monsters. Find out why Ancient Aliens costar David Hatcher Childress calls Water Monsters South of the Border a “unique book” and world-renowned cryptozoologist Loren Coleman placed it among his TOP 10 Cryptozoology books of 2016.
